Packing Friendship is a hunger relief program, intended to provide food for children who are at risk of going hungry over the weekends. The students served by Packing Friendship typically rely on the free and reduced lunch program to provide both their breakfast and lunch during the school week. We seek to bridge the gap between the food provided by the school through the free and reduced lunch program and the students’ needs while away from school on weekends and during vacations.
Packing Friendship began in 2010 as a small project at Grace Lutheran Church in Wenatchee, WA. We began by serving 14 students at 2 local schools. Our dream was to see the program grow within the community. We now have 26 churches and service organizations serving all schools with the Wenatchee and Eastmont school districts. Volunteers provide food for more than 500 students each week during the school year.
Our program is run entirely by volunteers. Volunteer opportunities range from organizing food drives, shopping for food, packing bags, and delivering to schools. Please contact us if you would like to learn how you can help!
